방초아 ChoAh Bang

방초아는 독립 전시 기획사를 통한 해외 교류전 및 백남준전의 전시 코디네이터를 거쳐 경기문화재단의 학예연구사로 근무 중이다. 경기문화재단 경기도미술관에서 일본 판화전, 해외 순회전, 프랑스 벽화전 등 국제 교류를 기반으로 한 전시를 주로 담당해왔다. 이후 경기문화재단 경기창작센터에서 레지던시 프로그램 및 오픈스튜디오를 기획하였으며, 작가 교류를 중심으로 한 콜렉티브 전시 기획 프로젝트를 진행 중이다.

시간 동사 “시간이 있다”는 경기도미술관에서 진행했던 <코끼리, 그림자, 바람>전으로부터 비롯한 것이다. 이 전시는 현대미술의 맥락에서 애니메이션의 예술적 가능성을 탐색하고 그 특유의 환상성을 통해 현재를 유동적으로 사유해보고자 기획한 전시였다. 이미지 사이사이 순간을 엮어 시간을 만들어내는 애니메이션에 비추어 시간의 틈에서 드러나지 못한 채 지나쳤을 순간들을 떠올려본다. “시간이 있다“에서 ‘있다’는 채 살아나지(animated) 못한 순간들의 존재(Being)함을 상상하고 지금을 반추하는 시간으로 초대하는 동사이다.

ChoAh Bang is the curator of the Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation, after experiences at an independent exhibition agency coordinating overseas exchange exhibitions and exhibitions of Nam June Paik. At the Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation, Bang has been managing exhibitions focusing on international exchanges, including the Japanese printmaking show, overseas exhibition tours, and French mural exhibit. Since then, she organized the residency and open studio programs at the Gyeonggi Creation Center, currently developing a collaborative exhibition project with focus on artist networking.

The time-verb “Time is being in between” originates from an exhibition at the Gyeonggi Museum of Art, titled <Image, Silhouette, Motion>. This exhibition was designed to explore the artistic possibilities of animation under the context of contemporary art, and to speculate the present through its unique fantasy. Animation, creating time by weaving the moments between images, makes us recall the moments that have fell between the cracks of time. The “is” from “Time is being in between” is a verb that invites the viewers to imagine and reflect the existence (being) of those moments in time that did not make it through (animated).
