Hyoung San Jun
Hyoung San Jun graduated from Department of Painting in Chugye University for the Arts and majored Media Art at Yonsei University Graduate School of Communication and Arts. He is researching the potential of sound noise with an interest in ‘non-musical sounds’ and based on this, he is producing work in various areas including sound installation and sound performance. Jun has had three solo exhibitions including <New Normal: a priori bits>(The Medium, 2015), <Unexpected Sound> (Banjul-Schale, 2015), and <REVERBERATION TIME> (Insa Art Space, 2018); participated in various exhibitions, programs, domestic and international artists’ residencies such as <the Utopian Laser TV Station at the 10th memorial ceremony for Nam June Paik> (2016), and was also listed for the ARKO Creative Academy in 2017 and the 38th JoongAng Fine Arts Prize. The artist produces mechanical devices based on his research on sound and experiences of mechanical systems, and his devices newly produce conceptualized sounds. The sound, as a surplus entity that has failed to dissipate in space, attempts incomplete contact(mediation), yet it heads towards time that is open rather than self-contained, and it represents the process of rediscovering the existence of ‘I’ within our systematic environment.
